Richard's Recumbent - 2007 experimental SWB version
This
is a bike I'm experimenting with a bit.
It's a commercially available bike called an Oracle Omega.
It comes with full suspension, and clearance for fat tires, which are
unusual for a stock 'bent. It's pretty light for what it is too, and
very comfy. Quick on roads.
I'm hoping it can be trail-worthy.
I replaced the front shock with my 26" Rockshox SID from my other bike,
and modified the rack for more clearance. There is now no heel
interference.
I replaced the
under-seat steering with a flip-down stem for entry/exit.
It allows better handling, and
should be more aerodynamic. Finally, the handling's better on sharp
turns.

Here's the bike with Under Seat Steering.

You can see how the front profile is pretty small on this bike. It
should be faster on roads and trails than the longer one, and easier to
transport. The over-seat steering is clearly more aerodynamic.
The Under Seat Steering is comfy and natural, but it's not as aero as
the over-seat bar, and restricts the turning radius a
bit. Not an issue on wide trails, but in singletrack it's
a problem.
26" X 2

I tried this confituration with 2 big wheels. It climbed over curbs and
rocks well, but practically needed a boarding ladder to get onboard.
Stopping involved falling over a little too often. Also, the
interference between heel and front wheel on tight turns was a
problem.
