A local dentist is making a splash with those in the 'green' energy business.

Bullfrog Power, a leading provider of green electricity in Ontario and Alberta, recently honoured Dr. Richard Ehrlich with a 'Bullfrog Splash Award'.

The new awards were presented to three Ontario residents at the company's second anniversary celebration in recognition for contributing to the environment by promoting electricity conservation and renewable energy.

For the past five years, Ehrlich has led the 'Caledon Clean Air, Clean Energy' project, a joint initiative of Citizens for a Clean Caledon and the Caledon Countryside Alliance.

He also writes columns on energy conservation and clean energy for local newspapers, and runs an e-mail list that shares information on energy-related news and events.

Ehrlich's dental office in Palgrave was the first business in Caledon to switch to Bullfrog Power. Many other local homes and organizations have switched on to Bullfrog over the past two years, including Caledon's Town Hall.

Bullfrog Power obtains electricity exclusively from clean, emission-free sources including wind and low-impact hydro generators that meet or exceed the federal government's Environmental Choice Programme EcoLogo standard for renewable electricity.

According to the company, close to 5,000 residential customers currently use Bullfrog Power in Ontario, including author Margaret Atwood, chef Jamie Kennedy and gardening guru Mark Cullen.

Tragically Hip lead singer Gord Downie, another Bullfrog customer, performed "unplugged" at the company's anniversary gala at the Steam Whistle Brewery.

Almost 400 businesses and organizations have also been turned on to Bullfrog Power, including Wal-Mart Canada, which recently became the country's largest commercial purchaser of green power.
